NetApp to Lead Discussions in May on Storage Efficiency, Virtualization, and Fibre Channel over Ethernet

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In May, NetApp (NASDAQ:NTAP - News) will participate at Microsoft TechEd 2009 and Interop 2009, showcasing virtualization and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) technology at various demonstrations and speaking sessions. Recent NetApp Industry News OASIS In February, [ad#linkunit1]NetApp joined the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS). OASIS is a not-for-profit consortium that drives the development, convergence, and adoption of open standards for the global information society. The consortium produces more Web services standards than any other organization, along with standards for security, e-business, and standardization efforts in the public sector and for application-specific markets. Founded in 1993, OASIS has more than 5,000 participants representing over 600 organizations and individual members in 100 countries. FAST 2009 In February, NetApp teamed up with researchers from Johns Hopkins University to present a paper titled “CA-NFS: A Congestion-Aware Network File System” at the seventh Usenix Conference on File and Storage Technologies (FAST). The paper outlines how to improve efficiency with NFS frameworks and shared the award for Best Paper at the show. www.usenix.org/events/fast/ SNIA Activities At SNW Spring in April, NetApp became the founding member of two new Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) groups: the Ethernet Storage Forum, chaired by David Dale, director of Industry Standards at NetApp; and the Cloud Storage Technical Work Group. The Ethernet Storage Forum consist of two special interest groups (SIGs): the iSCSI SIG and the NFS SIG. The iSCSI SIG will focus on continuing the successful IP Storage Forum agenda to create marketing and educational materials explaining the features, benefits, and best practices related to iSCSI solutions in a variety of IT environments. The new NFS SIG will focus on creating a portfolio of marketing and educational materials explaining the features, benefits, use cases, and best practices related to NFS-based NAS solutions. The SNIA Cloud Storage Technical Working Group will be the primary technical entity for the association to identify, develop, and coordinate system standards and interfaces for cloud storage. NetApp is also the founding member of the SNIA Database Information Management Special Interest Group. The SNIA’s Long-Term Archive and Compliant Storage Initiative formed this group to address the need for cooperative market education and best practices in this field delivered worldwide through SNIA’s broad resources.
