Miss America 2009 Winner
22-year-old Katie Stam of Indiana has been crowned Miss America 2009 in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
"That beauty that you feel on the inside, it's that confidence, that radiance inside of you, that's what glamour is," Miss Indiana Stam said. She also won Tuesday night’s swimsuit preliminary round.
“That beauty that you feel on the inside, it’s that confidence, that radiance inside of you, that’s what glamor is,” Stam said.
Katie Stam is a communications major at the University of Indianapolis, and is an aspiring weather girl broadcaster, having interned at two Indianapolis TV stations.
Her prize: a $50,000 scholarship and one year of travel and public appearances.
The first runner-up was Miss Georgia Chasity Hardman.

Bharti Airtel Launches IPTV

After like 3 years of the rumors about the launch of such a service, Airtel finally started to offer IPTV in two bundles.
Both comes with a landline connection (of course) and a 256kbps internet connection.
Its yet to be found out whether it is provided with other broadband packages.
Bharti Airtel’s new Internet Protocol Television has finally been launched in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida. Airtel is using MPEG4-10 compression, and interestingly has a last mile delivery on copper, with ADSL2+.
Services
IPTV brings flexible viewing - called time shifting - to the living room, which allows users to pause and rewind live TV, and the ability to record TV channels. Apart from this, IPTV allows broadband related services, and commerce like booking movie tickets and ordering a pizza just by pushing a button on your TV remote. Bharti Airtel is also offering Video on Demand services, with around 100 movies available, which you can download anytime.
Like they did in case of the launch of DTH, Airtel is also pushing the concept of a unified bill with for voice, broadband and TV and video entertainment.
The Pricing
Bharti Airtel is offering two plans for the IPTV service. The triple play plan is called Magic@ Home Pack. For Rs. 999 a month, the pack offers 135 channels, a 256 kbps, unlimited download Internet connection as well as a landline. The other plan, called the Combo
Pack, costs Rs. 599 per month. It includes 117 channels and an Internet connection at 256 kbps with a download limit of 2.5 GB.

The Kannada film industry and Karnataka’s music fraternity were in deep shock Saturday over the death of 39-year-old renowned musician and actor Raju Ananthaswamy at a hospital here. Ananthaswamy was suffering from a kidney problem for many months and was under treatment.He is survived by his mother Shantha and two sisters who live in the US. He was divorced many years ago.
Ananthaswamy was a renowned music composer and singer of Kannada Sugam Sangeet (light music).
“Raju Ananthaswamy has been the most talented singer in recent times. His death is a real loss to the Kannada music world. He has died at a young age, but has left behind a pool of great music compositions. His genius was not fully exploited,” said C. Aswath, veteran music director.
“As a singer he was the best and most of his music compositions were top class. I sung most of his music compositions. It would be difficult for me to choose the best song rendered by him or the best song composed by him,” Pallavi said.
Ananthaswamy’s father was also a renowned musician.
His music was greatly influenced by his father late Mysore Ananthaswamy. Mysore Ananthaswamy and the late Kalinga Rao were veterans of Kannada Sugam Sangeet.
Raju Ananthaswamy started his musical career while he was a teenager. He started playing the tabla in his father’s musical programmes. He wanted to bring out a new album of his father’s best compositions.
Ananthaswamy became quite popular because of his personality and sense of humour.
He had also acted in many Kannada films and had been a good playback singer.
His “Yaava Mohana Murali Kareyithu” song in the hugely successful “America America” was a chartbuster.
He had acted as a comedian in many films including “Abhi and Appu” starring Puneet Raj Kumar.
Ananthaswamy’s most memorable light music compositions include songs such as “Krishna Yenabaarade”, “Madhava”, “Beldingala Raathrili”, “Tunge Dadadalli”, “Heege Ondu Raathri” and “Badavanaadhare Enu Priye”.

TCS Q3 Results

TCS is to announce its third quarter results. The company's revenues are expected to go up by 5.7% to Rs 7347.7 crore versus Rs 6953.4 crore. Its EBIDTA is seen up 5.4% to Rs 1917 crore versus Rs 1819.7 crore.
The margins are seen flat at 26.1% versus 26.2%. The company's profit is expected to go up by 11% to Rs 1401 crore versus Rs 1261.5 crore.

Kellogg pulls crackers over salmonella concerns

The Kellogg Company has placed a precautionary hold on its Austin and Keebler brands of peanut butter sandwich crackers, and is asking consumers to not eat these products until the investigation surrounding the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) peanut butter recall has been completed.
PCA is one of several suppliers of peanut butter paste used in the fillings of these sandwich crackers.
Kellogg has put an inventory hold on the products, and has instructed that they be removed from store shelves. The company has not issued a recall notice, but is using the "product hold" mechanism as a safety precaution while it determines whether any of the following Austin or Keebler products contain recalled peanut butter:
- Toasted Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers
- Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Crackers
- Cheese and Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers
- Peanut Butter-Chocolate Sandwich Crackers
Kellogg Co. asked stores to stop selling its peanut butter sandwich crackers until the food maker can figure out if the peanut paste is contaminated.The national salmonella outbreak has sickened more than 430 people in 43 states and may have contributed to five deaths.
Kellogg, based in Battle Creek, Mich., said it hasn't found problems or received complaints about those products.
"We are taking these voluntary actions out of an abundance of caution," Kellogg CEO David Mackay said in a news release.
"We deeply regret that this has happened," Stewart Parnell, owner and president of Peanut Corp. of America, said in a news release. "Out of an abundance of caution, we are voluntarily withdrawing this produce and contacting our customers."
Customers were notified by phone and in writing, the company said.
Kellogg said it gets peanut paste from several suppliers.
Kellogg has not received reports of any illnesses associated with these products. And, while the company has not initiated a recall, any consumer who wishes to return one of the sandwich cracker products for a refund can call the Kellogg Consumer Response Center at 1-888-314-2060.
The CDC said it appears most people became ill between Sept. 3 and Dec. 31 but mainly after Oct. 1.
King Nut recalled the peanut butter over the weekend in the seven states where it distributed it. King Nut president Martin Kanan had said he didn't want to wait for Peanut Corp. to act. He did not immediately return a message Wednesday seeking comment on the wider recall.
Besides the Georgia plant, Peanut Corp. of America has plants in Suffolk, Va., and Plainview, Texas.
Georgia agriculture officials have one to three inspectors at the Blakely plant and more people working on the case at the department’s Atlanta headquarters, Schronce said. He said peanut butter plants in the state are inspected once or twice a year and more frequently if problems are found.

Reports say that Vivek Paul, former vice chairman of Wipro, might be appointed the new CEO of Satyam Computer Services Limited.
Paul's name is doing the rounds as next CEO of the embattled software services company Satyam Computer Services.
Vivek Paul has worked in Texas Pacific Group (TPG), a private equity firm and Vice Chairman of Wipro.
Vivek Paul has quit Texas Pacific Group or TPG, one of the world's largest private equity firms with $50 billion under management. Paul reportedly quit the firm, where he was a partner, in late December.
In a 2005 exit interview to The Financial Express, Paul has said that his innings as an employee is over. "My innings as an employee is over. It’s a completely different area. It’s like going from an actor to a producer. It’s an area where certain skills you acquired as an actor will be useful. But it’s a new twist in the road of life for me."

Tata Indicruz launch: Tata to launch MUV Tata Indicruz (Tata Xover) in 2009
Tata Motors will launch Tata Indicruz, an MPV based on the Safari platform in 2009.
TATA Indicruz Crossover, resembles the TATA XOVER concept that premiered at 75th Geneva motorshow in 2005.
The Indicruz will be launched in the segment in which Toyota Innova, Chevrolet Tavera, Mahindra XYLO will be competing.
The Tata Indicruz is expected to be launched with a price around Rs.10 lakh.

Indian stocks listed on the American bourses suffered a loss of close to $2 billion in a week, following unfolding of India's biggest accounting fraud by NYSE-listed Satyam Computer.
Indian stocks listed on the American bourses suffered a loss of close to $2 billion in a week, following unfolding of India's biggest accounting fraud by NYSE-listed Satyam Computer.
Despite, a halt in trading in Satyam Computer from Wednesday, the rest of the 15 Indian stocks on US bourses bore the brunt of the negative market sentiment and witnessed a fall of $1.94 billion in their combined market capitalization in the week ending January 9.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad-based company, which traded on the first two day of the week, added $2.66 billion on the speculations that some rival IT firm might acquire it. The combined market-cap of all firms excludes.
Meanwhile, private sector lender HDFC Bank's market valuation plunged by $1.20 billion and ICICI Bank's by $1.04 billion, respectively.
IT major Wipro saw an erosion of $277 million in its valuation.
Other major losers include telecom major Tata Communication whose market capitalization declined $152 million and another telecom entity Mahanagar Telephone Nigam, which tumbled by $135 million.

Two months after Jerry Yang announced his resignation, Yahoo Tuesday named former Autodesk chief executive Carol Bartz to succeed him as CEO. In Bartz, 60, the beleaguered Web giant has turned to a respected high-tech industry veteran to reverse its sagging fortunes.
Yahoo said that President Sue Decker, who was also in the running for the job, would leave the company. In a statement, Yahoo Chairman Roy Bostock said Bartz "is the exact combination of seasoned technology executive and savvy leader that the Board was looking for, and we are thrilled to have attracted such a world-class talent to Yahoo." He added that she was the only candidate offered the job.
Bartz, who was CEO of San Rafael, Calif.-based software maker Autodesk from 1992 to 2006, faces a daunting set of challenges in her new role. Among the immediate issues that confront her are the possible renewal of talks with Microsoft over the sale of its search business and whether to pursue a deal with Time Warner for all or part of its AOL unit.
She will also have to consider further cutbacks at the company that shed 1,000 of 14,000 workers in December. Rebuilding company morale--and Yahoo's depressed stock price--after its failed merger with Microsoft last year will be longer-term tasks.
"There is no denying that Yahoo has faced enormous challenges over the last year, but I believe there is now an extraordinary opportunity to create value for our shareholders and new possibilities for our customers, partners and employees. We will seize that opportunity," said Bartz in a statement.

Shivaji University, established in 1962, is named after the Great Maratha Warrior and founder of the Maratha empire Chhatrapati Shivaji. It was inaugurated on 18th November, 1962 by Dr. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India. One of the major objectives behind foundation of this University was to cater to the regional needs of South Maharashtra. The jurisdiction of the University is spread over four districts viz. Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Solapur with strength of about 2,00,000 students studying in 275 affiliated colleges and recognised institutes.
This region of Maharashtra boasts of rich and varied socio-cultural heritage. Under the innovative and socially reformist leadership of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, the princely ruler of Kolhapur, the city had become at the beginning of this century, a focal point of educational opportunities for all classes and communities of South-Western Maharashtra, and northern parts of neighbouring Karnataka.
This is also land of Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, who struggled for taking education to the masses by his innovative 'Earn and Learn' scheme. When the University was founded by the Shivaji University Act of 1962, the objectives set before the University included making opportunities of higher education accessible to rural youth, conducting fundamental and applied research in the field of science and humanities to ensure regional growth and development.
In 1962 the University started functioning with 34 affiliated colleges and about 14000 students with 5 Post-graduate Departments on the campus. Today the number of affiliated colleges has gone upto 248 and students strength upto 2,00,000 with 34 Postgraduate Departments on campus.
The University imparts education in 10 major faculties of Arts, Social Science, Science, Commerce, Education, Fine Arts, Law, Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Engineering and Technology. The University has started Post-graduate teaching centre at Solapur in 3 Post-graduate Departments.

Australian opener Matthew Hayden has announced his retirement from international cricket today.
Hayden aged 37 has got 8624 runs from 103 tests and 6133 runs from 161 ODIs to his credit. He has been one of the key players which made Australia the World Champions in all forms of cricket.
Hayden has been dropped earlier from Australia’s Twenty20 and one-day sides and has place only in the test team.
